Types of Treatment
Orthopaedic & Manual Physical Therapy
Orthopedics is the medical specialty dedicated to preserving and restoring function in the musculoskeletal system, which includes bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and nerves.
At Confluent PT, many of our physical therapists are APTA board certified Orthopaedic Certified Specialists.
The advanced clinical knowledge and skill set that comes with a Board Certification allows physical therapists to better treat the patients in their specialty and keeps them up-to-date with cutting edge research and technology. The OCS certification focuses on evidence-based practice, orthopaedic injury examination, treatment, and medical interventions. Only 3.9% of therapists in the United States are Orthopaedic Clinical Specialists.
Manual Therapy
Manual physical therapy is a hands-on technique that is used to decrease pain and improve range-of-motion and flexibility to stiff joints and muscles. Mobilization and manipulation are key components of manual therapy; both techniques restore the power of movement to joints & associated muscles.
All Confluent PT physical therapists receive additional training in manual physical therapy or are Fellows in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy.
Patients with a variety of disabilities and orthopaedic conditions may benefit from manual physical therapy. Current research confirms that manual physical therapy combined with therapeutic exercise can produce rapid pain relief and improved function in the following conditions and many others:
- Low-back pain
- Neck pain
- Hip and knee osteoarthritis
- Shoulder pain
